After successful purchasing the loyalty of New FORD Kenya leaders and brokering the dissolution of the party that was meant to serve the political interests of the larger Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia Counties, Deputy President William Ruto has hatched a well-financed political plot that involves luring additional Luhya leaders into shell political parties with a view to teaming up with the said parties under a coalition with the Jubilee Alliance Party.
The primary objective of the plot is meant to disintegrate the official opposition and has ropped-in politicians, businessmen, journalists and media editors and even community elders who are allegdily handsomely paid by Ruto’s seemingly bottomless money reservoir.
The unfolding political scheme ahead of the 2017 campaign season involves baiting key Luhya politicians within the CORD coalition and according to our sources, a Cord co-principal is laying ground and will soon escalate grievances and use the same to justify departure.
Recently during a key party retreat at Maanzoni, FORD Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula shocked his co-principals with unwarranted demands that he be declared the coalition’s flag bearer. Wetang’ula demands resulted to the coalition meeting being delayed by a day and eating into Senator Muthama’s thanksgiving rally held on the same day in Machakos.
On the media front, DP Ruto has allegedly obtained the consent of Standard/KTN CEO Sammy Shollei, and engaged KTN News Editors, Wellington Nyongesa and Paul Nabiswa into the scheme and has subsequently charged them with the responsibility of organizing and driving the propaganda on mainstream media as well as on Kenya’s fledgling social media.
Nabiswa has specifically been tasked with creating a TV program known as “Mirindimo” which is meant to demonize Raila and ODM which helps Jubilee in creating an electoral bogeyman out of the opposition leader. Jubilee lack any serious agenda to sell to Kenyans and they therefore want to make 2017 elections to be a referendum toward influencing voters into rejecting Raila.
Interestingly, Nabiswa and Nyongesa, both from Bungoma County, have been paid and they share a Whatsapp group known as “Mulembe Western Returns” with DP Ruto who is using an aide’s line to access the group.
Legislators who agree to Ruto’s scheme are to paid an equivalent of their anticipated earnings as legislators for the period 2017-2022 in case they fall at the general elections. Ruto is said to calling it “compensation”.
Ruto’s manoeuvres are however causing serious discomfort in Jubilee as many MPs in his own coalition viewing him suspiciously and one whose loyalty is unbankable. Some GEMA MPs have openly said that they will not back him in 2022.
